I’m Happy With Who I Am – So Why Should I Exercise?

Greetings!

Life is too short. I’m happy with who I am – so why should I exercise or watch what I eat? So says the overweight man eating BBQ on a show I was watching the other night. Now… I love BBQ!  I also am a foodie! I love to eat. I also get that life is short. Does that mean it makes sense to eat whatever I want, whenever I want? Well, I would say no but if you consider the rates for obesity, heart disease and diabetes, I think many people would agree with the man on the show – Go For It! Life is too short.

I looked up a statistic on the lifespan of those who exercise vs. those who don’t. I was somewhat disappointed in the numbers in that those who exercise only live 4 years longer on average. However, it is the quality of life that counts. Life comes in phases.

You have your early years (18-36) where all is good.

The middle years (36-54) where things start to break down.

The later years (54-70) where things begin to get worse.

The senior years (70+) where you either thrive, or just try to survive.

What you do in the middle years, impacts the later years. I have already lost several friends due to poor health. When you look at those thriving in their 60s and 70s, these are often the ones who ate reasonably, drank carefully and exercised regularly.

Don’t be short sighted and think that you can eat whatever you want, whenever you want, and still have a great life after 54 (or earlier if you are obese).

So… this is not about how you look. This is not about trying to look like a super model. This is about trying to enter your later and senior years in a way that you can thrive.

You owe it to yourself and your loved ones, to eat responsibly (you can still eat BBQ), drink carefully and exercise regularly.

You are… Built For More!
