Stay Fit While Raising a Family and Building a Career

Greetings!

Wondering how to stay fit while raising a family and building a career? Fred the pig and Doris the chicken were on a roadtrip. As they drove across the country they noticed signs at almost every highway exit that said, Bacon and Eggs Ahead, just $5.99! Doris was so excited whenever they passed one and would exclaim, “Fred! We’re famous! Bacon and Eggs! Everyone loves us!” Fred would just grunt. After passing a few more signs and Fred grunting away, Doris finally said, “Fred what is wrong with you? Why can’t you get into the spirit of things? Fred looked over at her slowly and said, “Bacon and Eggs! That may be easy for you, but for me, It’s Total Commitment!”

How do you stay fit while raising a family and building a career? The answer is simple. Total Commitment. If you want to get fit, get fit. Stop making excuses and find a way to get it done. Yes, it may be inconvenient, but only if you’re not committed. I feel pretty confident in saying that over 70% of you who are pursuing a career, aka wealth, are going to end up in poor health as you head into your 50’s, 60’s and into retirement. The typical manager spends at least 10 hours at work a day and may end up taking work home. The average executive is worse. Statistics back this up with Obesity being over 40% in America and Diabetes impacting at least 3 in 10 people!

I don’t want to be unsympathetic. I get it. Life is busy. But here is a very simple plan to staying fit that anyone can do, if you just commit yourself to doing it.

  • Eat healthy by watching your portions and eating the right combination of foods
  • Stretch for 10 minutes in the morning or before bed
  • Walk briskly at least 30 minutes a day (Motion is lotion!). You can do this on a work break or during lunch.
    • Note: If you work at a place that requires you to skip your break or lunch, ask yourself if this self-imposed, or, if this is the right place to work. If self-imposed, force yourself to take a break. If your company requires it, it’s time to change companies.
  • Get 3 workouts in per week of at least 30 minutes. This doesn’t have to be hard. There are so many ways to workout at home that you really have no excuse.
    • Make sure you vary your programs to focus on Resistance Training, Cardio, Core, Balance/Agility and Power

So, are you committed or not?

All the best,

All the time,

JT
