Evening Workouts and Sleep – Is there a connection?

Greetings Athletes!

Does evening exercise prevent you from getting a good nights sleep? Will you go to be pumped full of energy and toss and turn all night? A client of mine recently told me she was having trouble sleeping at night after she had to move her workouts to the evening due to work. She asked me what I thought so I went and did some research and this is what I found. According to a study published in the October 2018 Issue of Sports Medicine that was cited in the Harvard Health Publishing and WebMD, exercising in the evening should not interfere with your sleep and will likely help you sleep better due to it releasing endorphins and decreasing cortisol and adrenaline levels! The on caveat was that if you exercised within an hour of going to bed, it “might” take you a little longer to fall asleep as your body cools down.

So – go ahead an enjoy that workout of yours in the evening! Don’t use that as an excuse to not workout.

All the best!
All the time!
